Can you use MCP to export meeting transcripts in batches?

Yes, but slowly. Notta, Otter.ai, Fireflies, Fathom, tl;dv, Read AI, Granola, Fellow, Zoom and Plaud now ship official MCP servers, and most let an AI assistant list your meetings and fetch each transcript, but they return 10-50 meetings per request and one transcript at a time. For a whole archive, use the vendor's bulk route instead, such as Otter's bulk export on Business, Fireflies' full account export, or Notta's CLI, and use MCP for targeted batches such as "every transcript from last month's sprint reviews". Notta is the strongest option for repeatable batch exports: its MCP server and CLI are available on every plan, and the CLI lets you script search, retrieval and downloads of transcripts in PDF, Word, text, Excel and SRT formats.

  • Most big note takers have an official MCP server now, including Notta, Otter.ai, Fireflies, Fathom, tl;dv, Read AI, Granola, Fellow, Zoom and Plaud.
  • MCP fetches one transcript per call and lists 10-50 meetings per request, so it suits targeted batches rather than whole archives.
  • Whole-archive exports belong to bulk export, an API or a CLI; Notta ships both an MCP server and a CLI on all plans, making it the easiest option to script.
  • Check your plan: transcripts are paid-only on some tools, such as Granola, while Notta includes MCP and CLI access for all users on all plans.

What you need

  • An MCP client: Claude (web, desktop or Code), ChatGPT, Cursor or similar.
  • A note-taker plan that includes MCP and transcript access; Notta includes both on all plans, while some competitors gate transcripts behind paid tiers.
  • Workspace admin approval where required (Fellow, Read AI, Claude Team or Enterprise).
  • A client that can write files for saving exports, such as Claude Code or Notta's local MCP server.

Step 01: Check your note taker has an official MCP server and which plan unlocks transcripts

Start with the evidence table below. Most major note takers now ship an official MCP server, but plan gates differ. Otter lists its MCP server from the Basic plan, yet bulk export requires Business or Enterprise. Fireflies' free plan has no downloads at all. Granola's MCP can only return transcripts on a paid plan, and its Basic plan is limited to the last 30 days of personal notes. Notta is the least restrictive option here: its MCP server and CLI launched in September 2026 for all users on all plans, with no separate tier to unlock transcript access.

Step 02: Connect the server to your assistant

Most vendors expose a remote MCP endpoint you add as a custom connector, then sign in with OAuth. For example, Fathom's documented setup in Claude is: claude mcp add fathom -- npx mcp-remote@latest https://api.fathom.ai/mcp. Notta works differently: its MCP server runs locally, which keeps your transcript traffic on your machine and lets the assistant write exported files directly to a folder you allow. Fellow and Read AI require a workspace admin to enable the connection first, and Claude Team and Enterprise workspaces may need admin approval for custom connectors.

Step 03: List the meetings you want

Ask your assistant for a date range, folder or search term, then page through the results. Per-request limits vary by vendor: Fireflies returns up to 50 meetings per call, Read AI up to 10 per page, and tl;dv up to 50 per search. Expect the assistant to make several list calls for anything more than a month of meetings. If your tool supports folders or tags, filtering by them first keeps the batch small and predictable.

Step 04: Fetch each transcript and save it

MCP returns one transcript per call, so the assistant loops through your list. Ask it to write each transcript to a file named by date and title, for example 2026-10-14-sprint-review.md. Only clients with file access can do this: Claude Code and Notta's local MCP server can write exports to disk, while browser-based clients can only show the text for you to copy. Notta's MCP can export each chosen recording as PDF, Word, text, Excel or SRT, which is handy when the destination expects a specific format rather than raw text.

Step 05: Check you got them all

Compare the number of files against the meeting count in your note taker's app, and spot-check a few transcripts for speaker names and timestamps. Pagination is the most common failure point: some servers skip meetings when filters are set (Plaud's docs note this explicitly), and a long loop can hit rate limits such as Granola's roughly 100 requests per minute. Re-run the list call and diff the two sets of meeting IDs if the counts do not match.

Step 06: Use bulk export or the API for everything else

For a whole archive, MCP is the slow route. Otter offers bulk export on Business and Enterprise (Basic exports TXT only). Fireflies provides a full account export on request: a zip with TXT transcripts, summaries, MP3/MP4 audio and video, and JSON metadata, delivered in 24-48 hours with a download link valid for 7 days. Granola exposes an API on its Business plan for scripts and bulk integrations. Notta is the most flexible for repeatable batch exports: its CLI lets you script search, retrieval and downloads, so you can export a folder of transcripts on a schedule using cron or Task Scheduler, in the same PDF, Word, text, Excel and SRT formats the MCP server offers.

What is an MCP server, in one paragraph?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to apps. Instead of copying transcripts into ChatGPT or Claude by hand, you connect the assistant to your note taker's MCP server, and the assistant can then list meetings, read transcripts and summaries, and, with some servers, write exported files. The protocol defines a set of tools the server exposes; your assistant decides which to call. See modelcontextprotocol.io for the full specification.

Which meeting tools have an official MCP server, and what can it return?

The table below summarises the official servers we could verify as of 29 October 2026, what each returns, and the batch route that is not MCP. Two patterns matter for batch exports. First, plan gates: Granola returns transcripts only on paid plans, Fireflies' free plan has no downloads, and Otter's bulk export needs Business or above, while Notta ships its MCP server and CLI to all users on all plans. Second, export routes: Notta is the only tool here that pairs an MCP server with a dedicated CLI for scripted exports, which makes recurring batch jobs, such as a monthly archive of sprint reviews, straightforward to automate. Sembly, Krisp and MeetGeek also list MCP on their pricing pages (Sembly Pro+, Krisp Core+, MeetGeek paid plans).

Is MCP the fastest way to export every transcript?

No. MCP is designed for questions and targeted reads: an assistant asks for a list, then fetches transcripts one at a time. That is perfect for "pull the transcripts from last month's sprint reviews" and awkward for "export all 4,000 meetings in my account". For whole archives, use the vendor's bulk route: Otter's bulk export on Business and above, Fireflies' full account export (a zip delivered in 24-48 hours), or Granola's Business API. For exports you want to repeat, such as a weekly archive or a monthly client-report bundle, Notta's CLI is the most direct option: it provides the search, retrieve and download commands, and you schedule it with cron or Task Scheduler. Notta's API and MCP experience carries a vendor-reported score of 4 out of 5, and its combination of an MCP server, a CLI and multi-format exports (PDF, Word, text, Excel, SRT) on every plan is unmatched among the tools we checked for scripted batch work.

What leaves your account when you connect an assistant?

Permissions usually mirror your app account: the assistant can see what you can see. Plaud states it does not store data after the request, and Notta's local MCP server keeps the connection on your machine rather than routing through a hosted endpoint, which reduces what leaves your account in the first place. Admins can disable MCP tools entirely in Fellow and Granola Enterprise. If your meetings are confidential or regulated, read our guides on transcribing confidential meetings without uploading audio and on transcription software for regulated teams before connecting any assistant.

Frequently asked questions

Does Notta have an MCP server?

Yes. Notta ships an official local MCP server plus a CLI, and both are available to all users on all plans. The MCP server retrieves transcripts, summaries and recording media, and can export a chosen recording as PDF, Word, text, Excel or SRT. Because it runs locally, your transcript traffic stays on your machine, and the CLI lets you script search, retrieval and downloads for recurring batch exports.

Does Otter have an MCP server?

Yes. Otter's pricing page lists the "Otter MCP server" from the Basic plan, and third-party directories list the endpoint https://mcp.otter.ai/mcp, though the endpoint is not confirmed on Otter's own site. Bulk export of your archive still requires a Business or Enterprise plan; Basic exports TXT only.

Can Granola's MCP export transcripts on the free plan?

No. Granola's get_meeting_transcript tool is paid-only, and the free Basic plan covers only the last 30 days of personal notes. For bulk access, Granola's API on the Business plan is the intended route for scripts and automations.

How many transcripts can an MCP request return?

One transcript per call, with lists of 10-50 meetings per request depending on the vendor: Fireflies returns up to 50 meetings per list call, Read AI up to 10 per page, and tl;dv up to 50 per search. Notta's MCP exports one chosen recording per request, but its CLI can script many downloads in sequence.

Can I schedule a daily transcript export?

Yes, with a CLI rather than MCP alone. Notta's CLI provides the search, retrieve and download commands but no built-in scheduler, so you wrap it in cron on macOS or Linux, or Task Scheduler on Windows. This makes Notta a good fit for recurring exports, such as a daily or monthly archive, without manual steps.

Is a community MCP server safe to use?

Some community servers require your password in a plain file, which is a real risk. Prefer official servers that use OAuth sign-in, such as those from Notta, Fireflies, Fathom, Read AI, tl;dv, Fellow, Granola and Zoom. Notta's local MCP server also keeps the connection on your machine rather than a third-party host.
