## Verdict

GMKtec EVO-X1 is an HX-tier mini PC worth considering for OCuLink expansion. Geekom A9 Max is our preferred general desktop; the EVO-X1 makes the most sense when its specific connector or configuration solves a requirement.

This researched assessment uses published specifications. It does not claim a first-hand laboratory test; the Testbench score is an editorial rating, not a measurement.

## Running local LLMs on the EVO-X1

The original EVO-X1 uses Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and belongs in the smaller-model desktop tier. Check that the chosen application accelerates on the Radeon hardware. Total system RAM, GPU-visible memory and model context are separate constraints, even on an integrated system.

## OCuLink and eGPU

A native OCuLink route is valuable if an external card is already in your plan. Include the dock, GPU and power supply in the buying decision. For inference, the card’s memory can be more significant than the difference between external connection standards.

## Noise and thermals

Power mode and ventilation affect sustained performance and sound. Avoid assuming a higher allowed power draw is always better for a desk computer. No unsupported acoustic winner is assigned against Geekom or Minisforum.

## EVO-X1 vs EVO-X1 Pro

The original and Pro have different CPU generations. Match the chip, memory arrangement and SSD when comparing prices. A useful upgrade changes the workload you can run or how well the whole configuration supports it; it should not rest only on the word Pro.
