# Geekom vs GMKtec: which AI mini PC brand?

By [David Wilson](https://testbenchlab.com/authors/david-wilson/). Updated 2026-10-02. Our pick: Geekom.

## Short answer

Geekom is our preferred brand over GMKtec for a general AI desktop or local-model workstation. GMKtec is worth comparing when a matched configuration costs meaningfully less or OCuLink expansion is already part of the plan.

| Intended use | Our preference | GMKtec alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday AI desktop | Geekom A9 Max | EVO-X1 / EVO-X1 Pro |
| Larger local models | Geekom A9 Mega | EVO-X2 |

## Geekom vs GMKtec at the Ryzen AI 9 tier

We choose A9 Max as the general desktop. EVO-X1 and EVO-X1 Pro need to be separated by processor generation and configuration. A native external-GPU connector can be useful, but only after including the dock and card in the ownership cost.

## Geekom vs GMKtec at the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 tier

Our preference is A9 Mega. EVO-X2 is a direct alternative in the same platform class. Match memory capacity and the model backend before attributing differences to the logo on the case. A lower-priced configuration can be good value without becoming a measured performance winner.

## Which brand should you buy?

Buy Geekom unless a specific GMKtec offer or feature changes your decision. Preserve enough budget for the memory configuration your models require. A brand preference is useful for narrowing a shortlist; it does not make an unsuitable configuration suitable.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Geekom better than GMKtec?

Geekom is our preference for this shortlist. A particular GMKtec configuration can still make sense for price or expansion.

### Is GMKtec a good brand?

It offers relevant alternatives in both tiers. Evaluate the exact product, seller and warranty instead of assuming the entire range has identical strengths.
